Howler Monkey just put together a Crystal Castles mix — the Omnibus Mix — which features a whole bunch of their remixes as well as a couple of their own original tunes. Just a compilation of super-rad tracks. The twelve-track mix starts out with “Magic Spells,” the song that originally won me over.

Kitsune is doing something new with them, I think, since I got this thing from them, but who really knows … the duo’s gotten into like, forty contracts, and plans to release 139 singles in the coming three weeks. It has been eight months since Yuani Fragata returned from SXSW to preach the gospel of Crystal Castles. Now after lots of waiting get ready for more waiting because Toronto label Last Gang Records has announced that CC will be releasing their freshman full-length in February 2008.

When pressing President of LGR, Chris Taylor for more details he sent me this reply:

The band is touring in the UK with Klaxons in Nov/Dec.
The band is touring Japan/Australia after that.
There is a 6 week tour planned between Feb 19-Mar 30 for North America.
The album will be self-titled.
Kitsune Musique of Paris are doing a 12” in Jan.
Trouble Records of the UK are releasing the next single in Dec.

Style

Crystal Castles’ music uses unusual instrumentation such as placing an Atari 5200 sound chip inside a keyboard in order to produce a sound that has been described as having “ferocious, asphyxiating sheets of warped two-dimensional Gameboy glitches and bruising drum bombast pierce skull with sheer shrill force, burrowing deep into the brain like a fever.

“ We’re not meant to be a band. We were merely messing about with sounds and we put the results on the internet for some friends to download. Somehow a few labels heard the songs and wanted to release them. Crystal Castles is an accident. ‘Alice Practice’ is Alice practicing. She didn’t know I was recording.
